Rendering zombies into tiny pieces with anything you can find is fun, however, the sheer number of undead - combined with loose controls - force a heavier reliance on movement and evasion than the act of joyously eviscerating zombies.
Indeed, until you get the larger, more indiscriminate weapons that allow you to lay waste to huge swathes of zombies at a time, combat is usually reserved for when you are stuck in a corner or on set missions. This does add tension, as there are moments of legitimate panic as you fight helplessly against a swarm. When trying to complete a story mission against the clock, however, it becomes a frustration. Another returning issue is the cumbersome nature of picking up and using items. Though the on-the-fly selection from your inventory is now improved, it is still far from intuitive when surrounded by brain hungry zombies.
The final holdover from previous Dead Risings is the boss battles. These were always combat focused and massively challenging — an issue not helped by the aforementioned control issues. While these missions are still not exactly a highlight they are improved, enabling me able to take down the Hells Angel riding a steamroller-motorbike first time due to far a better encounter design.
The city of Los Perdidos is huge , spanning virtual miles of sun-soaked real estate. The whole map is ready to accommodate you from the moment you enter the world, a particularly impressive feat when is stuffed full of so many living corpses.
Of course this does tax your computer. The result is that the game can really chug when you are moving quickly through the streets. If you have played the other Dead Rising games, Dead Rising 3 will feel very familiar for you. It features that same over the top zombie killing action that the other games did.
You are free to screw around if you like, do side missions and of course complete the story. Capcom has brought back the ability to combine weapons to make more crazy stuff, but they have also allowed you to combine certain vehicles together too which is a lot of fun. You can now do this when you like and you do not have to worry about finding a workstation to do it. This is something I am very happy that they put in.
Dead Rising 3 also has a multiplayer aspect to it. You can play through it with a buddy and there are plenty of game modes that you can do. While I only dabbled a little bit with the multiplayer, it worked very well and was a nice addition to the game. I think that Dead Rising 3 is a great entry to the series. While I do not think the story is as good as it was in Dead Rising 2.
I really do like the open world aspect and the overall gameplay improvements that Capcom made to the game. I highly recommend that you check this one out as it really is a lot of fun to play through. It would eventually make its way to PC and for the most part, it is a game that was very well received by fans of the series and new fans alike. One of the best aspects of Dead Rising 2 for me was the story.
I got really invested in that story and thought that it was the perfect blend of Dead Rising weirdness and also a more serious plot. Dead Rising 3 I feel does not have quite as strong a story, but I do like the main character that you play as Nick. Nick is a mechanic and his neck of the woods has been overtaken by a zombie outbreak.
